Recovered from Comma

Hello! My name is Peter Makenzi I am 45 years old. I was born and grow in Rubavu district, Rwanda former Gisenyi. Today I am going to tell you what happened to me 10 years ago.

One day on Saturday March 5th 2011, on a Sunny day I was on the side of the road buying airtime, I was somehow happy I was greeting everyone. After paying the agent who sold me an airtime, I saw Michael, a friend of mine who was on the other side of the road. I waved my hand to him with a laughter and asked him to wait for me a little bit to cross the road as I wanted to talk to him.

The last thing I remember, is that I stepped into the road and saw a car coming towards me. For the first time after 2 years in Comma, I opened my eyes. After opening my eyes, I saw my wife nearby me and she was really happy to see me again, she cried a lot and called the doctors. Everyone around me was really Happy, I saw my family crying around me and my Friend Michael was there.

I was shocked, I didn’t know where I was, when it was, it felt like everything from my mind were wiped off. I was able to recognize everyone around me, then the doctor asked people around me to let me rest a little bit. After 30 minutes I asked my wife what was going on, she was very emotional and she couldn’t speak. I asked Michael what is going on as I remembered crossing the road to greet him, he told me that I had a car accident while crossing the road. He told me that I was at King Faisal Hospital (The first ranked hospital in Rwanda), He told me that I was in Comma for two years, He told me that we were on April 13th 2013 and I have gone through several medical treatments.

After gaining enough conscience I knew that I had an operation in my both legs and in my back. After few days like 4 days I started working in a wheel chair. And sometimes my wife helped me riding the wheel chair. After 1 month I have been discharged from the hospital and went back home but had to remain in a wheel chair for another two years.

Arriving at Home, I was very surprised to see that all my properties has been used to pay hospital bills during all those period except one small house that I had in Kinigi, one of Musanze villages by that time. I had no other choice except that of accepting my fate and we went with my wife living there doing nothing except reading books, reading bible and praying. My wife is a hard worker, she managed to find a job nearby and was earning a sum of money that helped me get few treatments on insurance from her job and find food for me and our 2 daughters. After one year of treatment at Musanze hospital, I was able to walk on two walking sticks then after 6 months I started using one, then After one year I was able to walk normally without a stick.

Honestly, I didn’t think that I will be able to walk again, I didn’t think that I will be able to live as normal people, I can call it a God’s miracle.

We have been living in Kinigi since that time and recently in 2017, the Government of Rwanda decided to build a modern city in a location where my land was located and they have paid our land and house for 35 million. I have used 25 Million to build another nice house in Busogo sector in Musanze, used 5 million to buy a car to help me as I was not tough enough to walk on foot for a long time. I have used 3 million in my business where I work in Goico building to sell clothes.

After a hard work of mine, my wife and blessings from God, right now I am running a business of 150 million from different part of the country and have a saving of 45 million. In my life I have seen that everything is possible while we are still alive and I have seen that best friend and wife are valuable more than any property.
